Thank you very much for taking the time to write. I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your cat, Preston. It's devastating to lose a healthy pet at such a young age and so quickly.
The EPA recently announced the results of its year-long investigation of pet spot-on products, including ProMeris. Here is information about it:

Also, please contact the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) and let them know what happened (they maintain a database of adverse incidents from pesticide products for the EPA. The EPA uses this data to identify dangerous products). Their phone number is 1-800-858-7378.
A lawsuit was recently filed on behalf of several pet owners against the makers of several flea and tick products. Here is an article about it:

BAN PROMERIS CAMPAIGN(BPC)
The following post is a direct action against the manufacturers, distributors and endorsers of ProMeris. I urge anyone with similar situations to please post and share your experience. United in numbers we can and will make a difference in the effort to protect our beloved animal companions.
This letter was forwarded to several organization including, The EPA, FDA, ASPCA, PFIZER along with popular national media groups and animal advocacy attorneys.
Below is a letter/email I began mailing and posting today to alert the public of the harm ProMeris caused to my beloved feline companion of 4 years. Not to mention, the emotional distress his sudden and preventable passing has caused to me. As I am left with nothing but a costly veterinary bill. Please find enclosed several emails and posts circulating which further supports that my claim is not an isolated incident. There are many more available upon request.
WARNING dated 6/2/2010: In Memory Of My Precious Preston - ProMeris flea prevention/control dangerous to your pet/pets.
I wish I would have goggled and read through the numerous post that warned about the danger to using ProMeris before applying it to my sweet boy. I can assure you that this is not an Urban Legend - as I just lived through it.
I applied ProMeris to my four year old domestic black and white male cat Preston on Friday, May 29, 2010. On June 1, 2010 I had to put him to sleep due to kidney failure. Although, his vet couldn't say for sure that it was the ProMeris. She did say that some poison/toxin caused the failure. Preston was a healthy and happy cat until I applied this product. Now after a four day stay in the hospital he is no longer with me. His vet's attempts to flush his system with fluid therapy and antibiotics in hopes of restoring normal kidney functioning couldn't undo the damage. This product is extremely dangerous and should be removed from the market until its safety can be guaranteed.
