PROMERIS PULLED FROM MARKET???

My vet recently told me that ProMeris has been pulled from the market. Of course, my first reaction, although, silent was that of glee. It meant that I had kept my promise to my sweet, innocent and beautiful, Preston and was successful along with so many others. A heartfelt thanks to all of you who, like myself, took up arms against the manufacturer of poisonous products cleverly disguised as harmless flea control.

The question whether ProMeris, in particular, for cats has really been discontinued sent me into a little investigating. http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2011/05/26/pfizer-to-discontinue-promeris-flea-and-tick-treatment.aspx  Of course, this link is dated 2011. Naturally, I decided to dig a little bit more, in hopes, that what was my vet had told me and what I had read was true. I didn't want to rejoice prematurely, after all...

http://www.animalhealthfoundation.net/news/item.html/n/20106  Now, this website is up to date, and quite an interesting read, because the manufacturer of ProMeris, namely, Pfizer are still denying any link between adverse reactions, including death.  Instead, Pfizer claims that the reason for discontinuing the product is due to poor sales??? You know what folks, the bottom line for me is, I don't really care why Pfizer has removed this product from the market. For me, it is a victory, because it means that another loving animal companion parent does not have to suffer what I, and so many others have, because of this and other poisons like it. As far as I am concerned, one down and too many more to go...

Too Many Victims... Educate yourself and spread the word. The companion animal you save my be your own.

It has been a while since I updated Preston's blog. Life has a way of throwing obtacles or as I prefer to view it - test your faith. I am keeping the promise I made to my sweet, precious Preston and continue to spread the word.

List of Toxin Killing Animals
http://www.facebook.com/officiallistkasperay
I urge you to visit the above websites before you make the terrible mistake of unintentionally harming and, in my Preston's case, killing your beloved animal companion. Below are a few stories that pet owners have shared about their horrific experience after applying a chemical flea control product.

My husband and I purchased bio spot at pet supplies thought it would be an easy and safe way to protect against fleas. I brought it home applied just as the package said within 2 hours our youngest cat Harley started having grand mal seizers. It was horrible! She was shaking all over saliva/foam stuff coming out of her mouth. By her 3rd one her gums where changing a grey color and not slowing down on the seizer it just got worse fast. My husband got her in the car to take her to a after hour vet and we lost her before he could get there. Within an hour and a half our one year old baby girl had died. We were devastated. We finally went to bed the next morning we get up and our other cat was shaking and unbalanced also had salvia/foam on the side of his mouth we rushed him to the vet, told him what happened and then linked it to the bio spot because nothing was wrong with either cat before using this product. The vet administered some meds to try to stop the chemical in his body. We also learned that this happens in felines with the chemical used in bio spot their chemistry can't handle it. We then left him there Sebastian still uncontrollably shaking. Within an hour we knew it wasn't working his gums also grey and now the seizers got worse unless he was sedated. For humane reasons we went back to the vet's said our good byes to Sebastian our 3 yr old cat then put him to sleep. I had TWO HEALTHY CATS then I used BIO SPOT and now they are both gone! Please does anyone know how to get this off the market? How is this product being sold when it is killing our babies, my cats were beautiful, young, healthy animals that stayed inside at all time and we loved them so much this company should NOT be allowed to do this. That was such awful deaths for my cat's and to lose both with 8 hrs apart is nothing I want anyone else to have to endure! Please help me get this product off the market and people be aware of the dangers. This medication absorbs into their system and once it does you can't stop the horrlble tragedy that comes next.

My 15 year old yellow labrador retreiver, Barney passed away liver failure as a result of an application of the Advantix pesticide. I contacted his veterinarian to double check if it was safe to apply because of his advanced age. I was informed that it was safe to apply the product. The evening after the application (application date: June 1, 2010), Barney was outside every 1/2 hour panting. I contacted his vet, they thought maybe he had another UTI (as he had one in January 2010), so they disregarded my thoughts about a possible toxicity. I noticed a steady decline in his ability to eat. I called them to see if possibly his reaction could be from Advantix. I was still informed probably not, but to wash him in Dawn detergeant if I was concerned. I bathed Barney, he seemed to improve slightly. Barney had perfect blood work May 2010. On June 4th it was discovered that his liver enzymes were very elevated. The following Monday he had an ultrasound--everything was perfect! We did more bloodwork, more liver function tests came back poorly. On June 11th, we were told Barney was in liver failure and that he would not survive unless we did IV drugs, we did --his liver function continued to get worse. We brought him home on numerous drugs to try to save him, had a feeding tube placed---all to no avail. Barney passed away on June 23rd at 5:07 am at home in my husband's and my arms. My vet now believes Barney had a toxic reaction to the Advantix given the fact that his liver values did not improve, consistent with a toxicity. His case has been reported to the EPA NPIC as well as to Advantix (their reps deny that their product could cause any harm to any animals as they never get any complaints. Their comments are ridiculous, as there is a formal investigation going on according to the EPA!!). As you know, this product needs to be taken off of the market!!!
Thank you for listening/ reading. I thought that I would enclose some pictures of my beautiful boy!!

PET SPOT-ON FLEA PRODUCTS INVESTIGATION

June 4, 2010

Dear MariaElena,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write. I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your cat, Preston. It's devastating to lose a healthy pet at such a young age and so quickly.

The EPA recently announced the results of its year-long investigation of pet spot-on products, including ProMeris. Here is information about it:

http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/health/petproductseval.html

Here is the EPA's report on adverse incidents that were associated with ProMeris for Cats:

http://www.biospotvictims.org/EPA-HQ-OPP-2010-0229-0020.pdf

Also, please contact the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) and let them know what happened (they maintain a database of adverse incidents from pesticide products for the EPA. The EPA uses this data to identify dangerous products). Their phone number is 1-800-858-7378.
A lawsuit was recently filed on behalf of several pet owners against the makers of several flea and tick products. Here is an article about it:

BAN PROMERIS CAMPAIGN(BPC)

The following post is a direct action against the manufacturers, distributors and endorsers of ProMeris. I urge anyone with similar situations to please post and share your experience. United in numbers we can and will make a difference in the effort to protect our beloved animal companions.

This letter was forwarded to several organization including, The EPA, FDA, ASPCA, PFIZER along with popular national media groups and animal advocacy attorneys.

Below is a letter/email I began mailing and posting today to alert the public of the harm ProMeris caused to my beloved feline companion of 4 years. Not to mention, the emotional distress his sudden and preventable passing has caused to me. As I am left with nothing but a costly veterinary bill. Please find enclosed several emails and posts circulating which further supports that my claim is not an isolated incident. There are many more available upon request.

WARNING dated 6/2/2010: In Memory Of My Precious Preston - ProMeris flea prevention/control dangerous to your pet/pets.

I wish I would have goggled and read through the numerous post that warned about the danger to using ProMeris before applying it to my sweet boy. I can assure you that this is not an Urban Legend - as I just lived through it.

I applied ProMeris to my four year old domestic black and white male cat Preston on Friday, May 29, 2010. On June 1, 2010 I had to put him to sleep due to kidney failure. Although, his vet couldn't say for sure that it was the ProMeris. She did say that some poison/toxin caused the failure. Preston was a healthy and happy cat until I applied this product. Now after a four day stay in the hospital he is no longer with me. His vet's attempts to flush his system with fluid therapy and antibiotics in hopes of restoring normal kidney functioning couldn't undo the damage. This product is extremely dangerous and should be removed from the market until its safety can be guaranteed.
